Leading Experts, Connected Globally
SPORTS20 invited to the “Global Sports and Sustainability Forum” on May 25–26, 2025, which took place in cooperation with Foundations 20 and the “Climate Solutions Forum” on in Cape Town. In collaboration with the Foundations 20 event linked to the G20 Summit, the organisers aimed to discuss how sport could be used as a driver for cross-sectoral developments to promote a more sustainable future. The objective was to identify the potential of sport to have an impact beyond its own sphere, for example in the sectors of the economy, infrastructure, nutrition, education, and social development.
Particular emphasis was placed on the integration of regional perspectives. Representatives of regional organisations shared their local experiences. In cooperation with these organisations from South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, the organisers sought to provide a platform for concrete projects and to link them to global approaches. The outcomes of the event contributed directly to the development of a position paper. This paper set out conditions for promoting peace and sustainability through sport and was intended to be presented and discussed at various levels.
