using the power of sports for global transformation

The decade of action threatens to crack

The clock is ticking and progress is far to slow. 2024 will be the warmest year on record and set to be first to breach 1.5C global warming limit. The SDGs show us the way towards sustainability, but we fail to get it done. We will never get there if we continue as we do now.

sports is our driver and lever

sports is moving billions

The world of sports has the power to drive sustainable transformation. Sports evokes emotions and creates a unique enthusiasm that reaches people across borders.

SPORTS20 wants to use this powerful energy to jointly tackle global crises and to strengthen and accelerate sustainable transformation and promote sustainable living and action in all parts of the world. Achieving this transformation in sports will also motivate and initiate sustainable development in all other areas. It’s time to make the decade of action happen.

Sports has the power to change the world

The world of sports  is like no other sector. Its influence extends far beyond the realm of sports itself, possessing a unique power to inspire and attract people and society at large. But sports can’t solve the challenges alone.

We need to get everyone moving:

  • by addressing infrastructure, energy, mobility, and food systems;
  • raising voices and making political demands;
  • putting pressure on regulatory side, governments and  states;
  • country-by-country – and in multinational forums such as the G20.
starting a global movement

We’ve got to get sustainability out of the niche and make it a central part of what we do. We’re passionate about using the incredible power of sports to create a better, more sustainable world. With our ambitious SPORTS20 framework and strong cooperation partners by our side, we can start a global movement.

“Net-Zero is a race against the time. SPORTS20
has the framework and the roadmap to help winning it.”

We approach change by first defining the desired end state. That means: What framework conditions must be created to achieve our vision of a sustainable future? From the concrete action fields we have defined, we derive the overarching political and institutional framework conditions that are necessary for this.”
