where we come from

our story

The starting point was Sports for Future e.V. with its network of over 500 supporters committed to climate protection in sports. From this rather low-threshold approach, the idea for an ambitious framework was born in cooperation with IMPCT gGmbH to think about change from the desired end state: What framework conditions need to be created in order to achieve our vision of a sustainable future?

Leveraging IMPCT’s experiences and insights from developing licensing criteria for the DFL, the SPORTS20 framework for transformed sport was established, identifying the necessary political and institutional frameworks for a sustainable sports industry.

From the outset, SPORTS20 started with international partners as a global initiative, first presented at COP28 in Dubai at the German Pavilion and WWF Panda Hub, showcasing sports as a driver of climate action and sustainable development.

As a nonprofit platform, IMPCT stands for the balance of economic success, ecological responsibility, and social justice—because a sustainable future can only be achieved together. And with its unique power to inspire and unite people across all backgrounds, sport serves as a key driver in accelerating this transformation.
